What are the most effective options for patterned tiling in contemporary kitchens?
When you think of patterned tiles, you probably think of floral decals. And that’s not surprising. A lot of the patterned tiles have relied on this floral pattern for decades. However, there are much more modern designs to consider. For example:
- Geometric patterned tiles- tiles in a Moorish style often have delicate, geometric patterns. And these can be incredibly contemporary. The lines however can break up the effect of the contemporary cabinets. And so these tiles should only be used in a splash-back area or feature wall. And not across the whole of your kitchen.
- Layout patterns- apart from the tile itself being patterned, you can also use the tiles themselves to create a pattern. From different shades of subway tiles laid out from dark to light, making a shaded patterned effect, to different coloured grout picking out the individual square tiles in the grid layout, the options are limitless. Using plain coloured tiles, and creating a tiling pattern with them, is one of the best ways to use patterned tiling in contemporary kitchens.
- Shaped tiles- finally, another option is to use shaped tiles. Hexagonal tiles or triangle tiles themselves create a pattern when laid out. And again, you could use a different grout colour to really pick out these shapes and accentuate the pattern. Circular and curved tiles are also becoming increasingly popular and can be very effective.
