When it comes to tiling, we have more then 25 years of experience here at Tiles 2 Go. Patterned tiles are becoming increasingly popular, in both traditional and contemporary homes. As a result, this is our buyers guide to patterned tiles.
Ceramic or Porcelain
The first decision to be made is whether to choose ceramic or porcelain patterned tiles. While both are similar, the different manufacturing processes lead to different qualities. For example, the ceramic tiles are fantastic for wall tiling, while the porcelain tiles, that are naturally more durable, are perfect for floor tiling. Porcelain tiles are more resistant to wear and tear, and they are less porous than ceramic tiles. This all means that they are likely to be more expensive than ceramic tiles.
However, although there is a difference in terms of properties, patterned tiles are available in both tiling types, and both can be incredibly effective.
Wall or Floor
Deciding whether to tile your floor or your walls with patterned tiles is an important decision. There are different patterned tiles available for either endeavor, and so making this decision will influence your purchasing range. While patterned tiles can be a fantastic feature wall, or splash-back area, they are also an incredible flooring option. This choice can also influence other factors including:
- the size of the tiles chosen- large format patterned tiles may work more effectively on the floor depending on your room, size, or layout.
- the grouting- whether it’s a contrasting grout to stand out, or almost invisible grout lines, your patterned tiles will be complemented by decent grouting. The grouting style you opt for will depend on the practicalities, such as the location of the tiling, floor or wall.
